ZOGS ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

PORTLAND, ME - In what can only be described as a game of shear determination, the ZOGS bested the Red Dogs 5-2 for the right to play in the Championship Game.  Forward Greg Perry put the ZOGS on the board first off of a centering pass from Andrew Bradford.  Nearly six and a half minutes later the Red Dogs scored on a broken play to tie the score at 1.  Play continued to be tight until ZOGS forward Rob Carrier scored the first of his three goals on the night at 7:00 of the second period.  Nick Gordon broke in on the right side breakaway and took a quick wrist shot that glanced off the left post.  Gordon secured his own rebound and fed the puck to Carrier down low, who fired low glove side on the Red Dog's goalie.  Six minutes later ZOGS defenseman Bill Reynolds took a double minor for slashing.  However, on the penalty kill, Carrier stripped a Red Dog defenseman and broke in all alone and lifted a backhand for the eventual game winner.  For good measure, forward James Gilbert and Carrier added empty net goals with less than one minute remaining to secure the win.

By advancing past the semifinals for the first time in team history, the ZOGS will face Freightliner in the League Championship game Sunday night at 8:50 PM.  Freightliner won the season series against the ZOGS 2-0-0 and has won the Championship three out of the last five years.  However, the ZOGS were able to defeat Freightliner earlier in the quarterfinals.  Either way, the final game of the season should prove to be a battle of heavyweights. If your a fan of hockey, this game will be one to watch.  Hope to see you there.
